Just bought my 306, so thought I would introduce myself on here.
1.4 1999 LX - will be fitting a new clutch this weekend, hopefully.

Thank you Everyone seems very nice.
Yep, however iv just drained the gear box oil and found alot of filings and a tooth :/ but should get plenty of life out of him if im gentle.

No, got it off an old woman who rode the clutch. yea tooth is not good, its off second im thinking.

1.4/1.6's Eat gear box's for a pass time, Im pretty sure you will be replacing that pretty soon,
But yeah be prepared as it will go at some point, some on here have been know to change a gear box more than once on a 1.4

I wouldnt buy a new one, as said, go down scrappys and see if you can find a low millage box...
money spent now saves on future breakdown and more money/time to fit another...a tooth is not a good sign...
if your tooth fell out, would you wait till more fell out before going to the dentist to sort it!

my gear box (1.6) has done 95000 and ive never dropped the oil and never had any problems at all.

Its much like the number plate thing kingy, your OAP driving dosnt really put much stress on the box

I too recently got a 306, clutch is fairly heavy with pedal at top, let me know what it's like to change !!

Wasn't to bad, getting the gear-box out the way is probably the hardest bit. I got my Luk clutch for £68 online from Buy parts by, and got a new timing belt and brake pads as well. You should change it, makes all the difference to the drive!
