A friend a mine has a modified d-turbo 306. It's the second engine on that car.
It's a ph2 d-turbo. The first engine put some holes in the block (rods went bye bye). Went for a ph1 engine (he heard they were stronger). Now the second one has a snapped rod.
Mods: Bosch pump, grinded lda pin, gov mod, 11mm plunger.
Fmic, oil cooler (the plate is with thermostat), some hibrid turbo (t25 hot side, t25 housing on the cold side, reamed out with gt2260 compressor. Runing around 2.2 bars.
The pump was recently gov-modded. 2 weeks max. So not much 5000+ rpms. He told me that he reached 5700rpms but not more because he was afraid.
Soooo. What rods should we buy? Are the HDI much stronger? The 90HP from 306-206 ones should we buy, or from other engines?
Please help.
Thank you!

The HDi rods are a little chunkier at the big end and yes supposedly stronger, really depends on budget though - if you've got the money to spare go forged...

The hdi rods are reportedly reliable for 200 bhp wish
Forged rods are around 5-600 for a set and no one knows what they're good for power wise but should be fine for ANY mods

Has anybody succeeded in snapping hdi rods? So 90HP HDI rods?

I only know of a couple of people who have snapped HDI rods and I would have thought they were running in excess of 200hp.

Ok. So HDI rods would be ok for 200hp. 5000rpm sounds safe?

It doesn't sound safe no but it sounds a lot safer! Your only garauntee is to get forged rods but as has been said there is a difference in price of over £500!

I dont think they blow at high rpm, i was always under the impression they explode at about 3k when your nearing peak torque give or take a few rpms?
Doesnt even own a 306.

Its probably because he was running 2.2 bar. They dont really like anything at all past 30psi.

rods snap if they are unable to take the strain of compressing 2.2 bar worth of air and fuel. high rpm wouldn't help the situation either as at 5k+ there's a fair bit of momentum to push them out the bottom. im refraining from revving mine above 4k rpm and no more than 1.5 bar boost until i have forged rods and headstuds in. dont want to destroy my freshly rebuilt engine
