Good evening sirs.
Just went to tow my car back from it's swimming experience it had.
Went to attach the tow pole to the front, then found there was no towing eye, but a hole in the grill where it would be..
Am I missing something, am I being stupid?
My previous 306 had it's tow eye attached there..
Or has some lady garden taken it off?
Prepares for stupid abuse.

been cut off. they are welded on!
At best, it may have been bent behind the bumper but probably been cut off

Had a proper good look around trying to find something to attach it to...couldn't find any towing eyes...
So it looks like some lady garden has took it off...
Going to rage now.

This is why I'm confused...
Maybe it got bent, so they took it off.
Or, to attach a ghey tow strap?
Either way, not sure how I'm going to tow it back now. Going to have to visit it again tomorrow and find something suitable to attach a tow rope to..

Poor spec Ph1 306s have welded on tow eyes but higher spec ph1s' have bolt on ones.

Yea, been told about these bolt on ones...
But I couldn't find out how it would bolt on...
...and wonder where the towing eye is.
Edit:
It kind of had a round object like something was to be put around it almost... cylinder shape...

This was when I changed from poor spec to sports ph1 bumper and I bolted on the new tow eye (red thing) The new bumper covers up the old tow eye

Ah useful that.
Just been browsing ebay and see the poor spec 306 has the lower one sticking out below. Then the sporty bumper having it stick out next to the fog light (where mine should be).
I couldn't see anything I could bolt anything into though...
Maybe I'm blind, but I couldn't see anything. Hmm.

Underestimated a rather large puddle.

Take the bumper off, we thought curts didn't have a towing eye, turns out it was lower down and it didn't pass through the towing eye hole. Wasn't until bumper was off that we saw it

So ghey, gotta take bumper off to tow it back
Or, just might use a hole in the subframe somewhere tbh...
Grrrrrrrrrr
Cheers for the ideas

Suuuurly someone breaking a ph1 DT will have a unrusted tow eye to sell you to save you this hassle next time.

I was thinking about the wishbone, but I had nothing to get around it.
...and do what with the tow eye? I can't see a way of bolting anything onto where the tow eye should be?

This is the complete tow eye you'll need in the future:
It's a bumper-off job to fit it anyway.
You fit it there and there's hole to bolt it to the chassis leg.

Tbh I wouldn't trust a 306 tow eye anyway, they're shite, all the ones I've seen used have been bent and rowells has pulled the whole front end out on his car! Find a piece of metal that's actually strong enough to take the weight of the car to tow with imo.....

That one^ pulled mine perfectly fine right onto the AA flat bed when gearbox died. But yeah, I did see a few nasty rusted ones while at the scrappers trying to find one.

Well if that's the case they should've continued that one to phase 3 lol! A bolted one would be a better idea than the weak welded one anyway imo.
Incidentally the golf had a much better tow eye, it screws in with a reverse thread behind one of the grills when needed. Didn't bend at all, or rip out the front end lol.

seriously just wrap a rope around the wishbone, or you could feed under the engine and round the lower engine mount, surely its not far to your house though either?

As said to you earlier on MSN Dave, can't easily attach a tow pole to a wishbone. Will be getting a rope on it tomorrow, then the dreaded compression test....

errrrm about that, it kinda snapped off as it was that rusty
Saying that, it would explain this though
But yea there bolted on and the bumper has to come off to fit another.
