2.0 xsi or gti engine. Gti is a bit more work if you want the 6spd box as you also need a different steering rack
Tbh for the hassle I don't think it's worth it. 1.8 is a quick engine anyway. Gti is only marginally quicker until you start hitting 60-70mph

So if i was going to change it you'd recomend an XSI, but, theres not much point because it's not alot quicker. Right, ok, cheers mate, i'll leave it for now then :-)

He 1.8 is quicker than the xsi and the gti isn't much quicker than the 1.8. Some will argue and say the gti is stupidly powerful and will have most cars on the road (ed) but from owning both, it really isn't worth the hassle.

Grants xs is fairly nippy, but I could keep up with him in the xsi, with a bootful of shite. Not round the corners mind, that things on bloody rails!

I had 2 XS 3 XSI and 1 GTI. My second xs with gti exhast manifold and cat went really well Imo. Never the less my gti would show it a clean set of heals to 60 to 100 its just a faster torquey car in comparison........ an XS tho will out handle both almot no understeer feels more nimble in and out of coners (ally block). Keep the xs or go balls out with Gti conversion dont both with xsi's i hate all of mine
