Car was pretty much faultless, used £80 of fuel, which isn't horrendous considering it's a GTi6... Well, it is, but for a janky petrol I suppose it's OK...

Got to outside my housemates work to pick up new discs and pads for it... Then it proceedes not to start. The negative terminal which is clamped on tight has just decided it doesn't want to work, so I then set about getting the pliers I dropped between the aircon and main radiator, managed to get them (bearing in mind I'd just done 200 miles in it back home, it was rather warm and being a petrol it decides to run at a billion degrees..), took it off, put it back on and it works.

Sometimes I just hate cheapy shit - cost saving measures which just make things worse... It's hardly like I've ever pissed about with the negative terminal... Any normal person would have had that problem and had to call out the AA...

I'm doing a good 1200 mile round trip with the derv this weekend; should be interesting how that goes. Hoping to do it on 2 tanks of fuel... Should be interesting!
Gz nonetheless

You got 550 from 1 tank on a GTi6? Are you sure you weren't being towed lol

That's pretty good fuel econ tbh Ruan!

Assuming Gloucester prices of fuel are about £130.9 a litre ?

that means 550miles with £80 spent on fuel works out at 60l or so, which is just under 41mpg!

That's pretty epic economy for a '6, seriously! You must tell me your secret lol

Tom, you'd have arrived 5 years late shaking like a shitting dog, with a beard in contention for the longest ever grown (yes I saw the 'movember effort' I still stand by my statement)

In short, for the extra £30, I'd rather have driven it in a car worth driving.

Tom, £65 maybe, but £50 is 70mpg and I'm affraid that is therefore bullsh*t.

Unless you've found diesel somewhere that's £1 / liter!

Ruan would've averaged 40mpg to his £80, so not bad for a GTi6...
Disclaimer: The above is not to be taken to heart and is probably a joke, grow up you big girl.

I'm doing less than 10 pence per mile Chris, think it was 65mpg last tank, so between £50 and £55...certainly not £65 lol, as I do 600 miles a fortnight and don't hit £65!!

If you don't drive it like you stole it or labour the engine, they're not actually that bad...

Saying that, in that £80 was when I went with Ed and Adam for a quick drive, where I did spank it significantly... So tbh, high 30s I suppose isn't horrific for an old 2.0 16v "GTi"...

Poor you, I did 677 miles this weekend and only spent 77 quid

oh, and that was one tank of fuel too, and I didn't even drive particularly economically.

To be fair I just got 37mpg on a 167 mile dual carriage way run. It's the short city runs that ruin them, probably averaging 28mpg around the city.

They really are addictive. Had a Civic Type R trying to undertake me on a roundabout earlier. LOL good luck, booted it past his open window and left him there, while scaring the shit out of him with the k&N panel filter and winpipe. VTEC didn't kick in, y0?

Yep, Its 4k plus that its awesome all the way to the limiter. I blame this for my 20mpg fuel economy.

Gearbox is TOO long if you like to use the engine at lower speeds... And maybe it's just me, I'm not a total fan of the noise, I can't stand the inlet noise, I'm sure you all know this, the exhaust noise is good, but only if you have it excessively loud with straight pipes and decats...

I always find there's never enough pull until 4.5k, it's awkward to change down to first, you have to wait for the power in 2nd... You've only got two times that you've got FULL power until 65mph - from 30-35 in first and from 55-65 in second... Then you're breaking the law, and 3rd is too long... I just always find them awkward to extract power from unless you're doing 60+.... I know I'm used to being able to have FULL torque at 2200rpm, so that sways it for me...

I can safely say I've had both, but for me, Diesel is just better. The one thing the GTi6 does that the DT doesn't is be able to get STRAIGHT on the loud pedal after a gearchange, you've not got to go for 3/4 for a split second and then go for full... But that's probably more down to the fact I'm on a 100% standard LDA...

I'd agree first and second are probably too long but mine gets through first in no time at all, I don't know whether there's good or bad ones but mine pulls so much harder than the hdi which in theory is almost as fast, Andy can vouch for this
