havent had this out for abit since the weathers been bad, i have managed to sorce 6 new rear subframe bolts, and working on a deal for Gti shock mounts and new Titanium Bolts for Steering Arm/Lower Ball joints. also pricing a full system too for the car. and looking at buying droop stops for the car too.
also had her running today and checked if the floor pans were wet. nice and dry like the 306 which is a plus!
edit also forgot to mention, i did meet my goal in having the car on the road for the metros
30th birthday too

iam wanting to buy a full exhaust for it, and maybe get the bodywork sorted too.
i have shock mounts to fit now so thats one step closer for the cars handling.
also i need to sort the water temp gauge out gain as the way i have it, is crap.
maybe a few little tweeks like a removable boss, and droop stop spacers. possibly a change in rear droplinks too for adjustable ones.

done a few things today, i fitted my Titanium Bolts for Steering Arm/Lower Ball joints, i had to buy new tab locks to lock the top steering arm bolts in place. also i bought 6 new subframe bolts for the rear front subframe mounts. one hole i think needs to be retapped i think.
my shock mounts that need to be welded in
bolts
tab washer
anyway heres the work,
my subframe mount bolts in place
fitted the bottom ball joint bolts aswell, no photos of that as it was getting dark and we had a problem with one of the ball joints.
next up on the list now, i think is rear droop stops and braided hoses. droop stops i think are a must like.
but i will have to wait and see what funds i have as i have the 306 to tax and mot.
also iam waiting on a setup for my water temp gauge, as the way its wired in is crap.

only bought theses due to the bottom ball joint bolts looking abit off. plus he did a discount on them with the shock mounts too. i may buy a few more stainless steal bits too in the future. part of the upgrades.

been a while since I have updated this thread on here,
quite a bit has been done, upgrade and service wise.
1st of all I managed to get hold of two diesel metro fans, these are slimline,
these are the proper fans that go with the rad,
all I did was adapt the fan loom to the metro one,
here's the front one installed
this one is wired to the MPI system, my car has two systems, one spi and one mpi.
the mpi is ecu controlled, where the spi is fan switch controlled. both come on different temps. basically and ideal backup system for the car.
also rear arb bushes, look at the differences! f*ck knows what the old ones are from, but I don't think they are metro ones!
that sorted out the banging noise and made the car rear end a lot more stable,
also I had another fault, my rear droop stop spacers,
these were proper f*cked, metal on metal! so the car rear end was bottoming out like hell!
replaced with new ones that are adjustable, I had to cut them down so they would fit in place.
spaced out with 5mm worth of washers.
also while I was at it, I decided to give the front and rear brakes and upgrade and overhaul.
the fronts got brembo discs and pads, and the rears got new shoes and adjusters.
also my retro AA badge too
it made it to mg live 2013 no bother too! which I was over the moon with! took the car around sliverstones tour lap too, the mgb and mgf owners loved seeing a metro there, as it was the only one. A few marshals had metros too ( mg metro turbo ) back in the day ( 80s early 90s) so they were over the moon to see a metro,
the marshals ,mgb and mgf owners were chatting, they said, we have MGA,B,C, mgf and now a metro here, all we need is the maestro and montego. That would make the tour!
one mgf owner had owned 8 metros in his time before switching to the mgf Le500.
he fell in love all over again with mine, as it brought back memories of the 90s! he now wants another one! He thought mine was top works with the engine under the bonnet,
the tour was great, I need dampers to the front. Mg metro cup lads looked my car over, and we exchanged notes, give one racer a few ideas, also got some info from the mg rover exworks engineer too about the engine.
also take alook at the new mg3, the replacement of the ZR
one ugly thing!

Good to see the project being updated

I have done a lot more to the car, these are the highlights.
that new mg thing, I don't think will cut the mustard, with what market that's going to attack,

pays to be different, reason I don't play with the HDi, is that its fine as it is for the min, she is a good one too and never put a foot wrong, so I bought this as I missed messing on with cars,

just a quick update,
new spark plug cover,
old rover one,
nicely repainted lotus one done by gareth.
I think I will look at changing the rocker cover to a nicely lotus polished one, as that one looks well ugly now.

no not yet piggy, I will have to let the paint settle, as its not long been painted. might just polish out tbh. looks like the bubble wrap may have stuck to it with the heat we have had.

replaced my brake bolts that bolt on the back of the hub, with new items. as I had odd size bolt in.
while was at it, decided to have a look at why my car as a vibration at 6k, it was coming from the passanger side.
happened to spot the ECU bracket was loose, I made the excuse to tidy a bit of wiring while as tightened the ECU bracket.

a lot more quicker than a gti, as that's only a 100 bhp, the car weighs about 850 kg,

wind this up to the red line in every gear, your in for some serous shit!
as my mate found out, He thought it would be that quick. didn't do it again coming back. took a pal out in it, ( last time he saw it, it was in bits 3 years ago) he said its got some right old power, and it even scared him at times.
the same as the HDi, maybe even more as the engine towing f*ck all.

yeah tiz what I thought, surprising how well tiny cars with big ass engines can be efficient.
whats the 'plan' and 'wish list' for future then?

the plan is, to fit front dampers, like the gti has, and get a better exhaust. the one that's on the car, has had it now, the baffles have gone and I think the back box is ready to go boom.
wish list, is to get the car looking like new. only thing is I have to decide on changing the shell to a cleaner one or get this one painted and sorted out.
going to cost up to 1k to have this shell resprayed by a good painter,
as the colour is about 5 shades of red. plus the age of the paint work too does' nt help.
another thing is, I will have to look for a better J plater for the Decat too if I were to reshell the car.

after my weekend away at mg live 2013, and chatting to the ex works mg rover engineer, about the engine I have in the car.
He said the best air filter to use is ITG, all the cars in the team had the more advanced more expensive ones, plus they may gave been too big fit into the space I have in the metro.
He mentioned if I can get hold of the air box from a ZR 160 that would be well worth upgrade. Laugh is I have one in the car already.
so this came in the post two mins ago.
opened up
then headed out side in the wet,
opened my 160 airbox
note the shitty K&N that was nicked from a R25 when I got air box.
done its job but I think its had it, not bad for a five finger discount.
replacement
replacement in, notice the size difference, as the one I had in was a little smaller,
all back together
now I have one of these in the HDI and I did notice a difference in the ITG one over the K&N one in,
I seem to have little more power up the rev range and pulls a little more.
With this engine, it will love this air filter as these love to breath. I may take out for a drive sometime today or next week.
