I've heard of something like this happening before at a dealer in Bradford, a Chrysler Europe/Talbot dealer. Basically, Chrysler took over Simca and branded their existing range as Chryslers, but then later sold their European arm to PSA who renamed them Talbot. When PSA took over, they gave them 3 months to sell any Chrysler badged stock, and then send them back to the factory to be rebadged. Apparently, there was a brown Alpine that wouldn't sell, so it got tucked away in the workshop and didn't emerge until 2005 when the dealer shut down, having become a Proton franchise in the meantime...
