Sand the primer like Dan! says to give it a key for the filler to bond to.
I would personally not use 80 grit, as it is liable to leave deep scores in areas, creating more filling. Im not saying 80 is wrong to use, but I've always used 120/240 (depending on surface) to provide a key and had no problems.
Get a good few coats of primer on and let them dry before flatting them back, then crack on as normal....
