For rust removal from removed parts like the battery box etc, try tesco no added sugar lemon squash concentrated, about £1.50 per 1 1/2 litres, use neat but dont drink it afterwards. I got some more when it was on bogof.
Get some and try on a rust bit of steel and post the pictures, it takes a while but you will not believe the results unless you do it your self. Just submerge the part you want to de rust and leave.
Its better if you can remove as much of the crap/rust as you can before hand, more economical.
The 1 1/2 litre bottle is better value than the 750cc bottle.
I have used the brown kurust paint and was not impressed, rusted underneath after a short time, say 3 months. Have used hammerite and that does the same after more time, but have used the aldi metal care paint which is on long term all weather outside test, will try and post some pictures/results of that paint which looks quite good after a good 6 months outside test.
The best stuff I have come across is a water washable brush on white rust treatment paint that turns rust purpley/black. and was waterproof.
Used a similar stuff that was a disaster, rusted like mad under this paint as the stuff seemed to absorb water thru a chip and literally rusted away the metal to nothing quietly under a good looking paint top coat.
Wish I had a largeish workshop with lift etc so I could do same underneath, well worth the effort. Nice.
Blue beam, yellow arms, some green somewhere and red calipers, silver wheels......all underbody white.
