‘As new’ 1989 Peugeot 205 GTi to be auctioned; the estimate will likely astound
#1
In 2014 in London, RM Sotheby’s sold a 1984 Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 for £140,000 against a pre-sale guide of £60,000 to £95,000. That figure certainly seemed astounding for what essentially is a souped-up hatchback, but now a somewhat more ordinary example – a 1989 Peugeot 205 1.9-litre GTi is to be auctioned at The Silverstone Classic Sale on Sunday 31st July with an estimate of £18,000 to £22,000.

The interior is simply immaculate and in showroom condition

A one owner from new car and purchased and delivered on 8th May 1989 at a price of £10,001.93 from the A. J. Blackler Peugeot and Renault dealership of Torquay, Devon, the grey with red piping car has covered just 7,896 miles and was laid up between 2004 and 2012 in dry storage.

The 205 – registration F425 MFJ – offered is described by Silverstone Auctions as being in “exceptional condition” and features a cigarette lighter, an ash tray and rear seats that have never been used. Of it, the vendor adds:

“The vehicle looks, drives and smells as close to new as you would find. In other words, it as close as you would ever get to being able to walk into a Peugeot dealership in 2016 and purchase a brand new model of what is generally recognised as being the best hot hatch ever built”.

This ever-so-bold individual’s point will be proven right if the car sells for its upper reserve. The Bank of England’s inflation calculator tells us that the vehicle’s price new in 1989 is the equivalent of £22,446.57 today.

The boot shows no signs of wear-and-tear either

And finally, even the wheels are perfectly presented (though Silverstone note that new tyres will be required)
