No! you have to be gas registered to break the gas line
in your own private house you can do as you wish
but it might bite you in the ass if your not compitant enough to deal with it
Pretty sure thats not correct as i had this conversation with someone before. Even if you remove the cover just for a look then theres a gas leak and someone in your house dies because of it, you can be held accountable. Thats how i understood it anyway

You Can. If its your house you can practically do what ever you want however you're insurance may not cover you and if anything happened you may be accountable. Also some say you will have trouble when it comes to selling but in reality these days you mostly wont as most buyers have a EICR done before committing to buy which would highlight any issues.
