VNT turbo gives you the benefit of having a small turbo and a large one at the same time. Small turbos don't lag but run of puff quickly (crap on the motorway), large turbos lag like hell but pull harder up top (crap in town), so any fixed geometry turbo is a compromise of the two. With a VNT you have boost from almost idle with max boost/torque around 1950rpm and still pulling up to 4k+ (depending on variant). Honestly once you go VNT you don't go back.
