Taxing a car after purchase

Interestingly, I heard from a copper that the ANPR only tells them whether the vehicle is taxed, not when or who taxed it.  So depending on distance I'd probably risk it on previous owners tax and don't drive like a twat on the way home.

That's what I'm thinking tom it's like a 15 mile journey back home from where I'm collecting the car, should be ok lol

As per the quote I posted from the DVLA, you do not need to have a car insured in order to tax it. Therefore there is no 'Hoping the system updates' as it is not checked, it's just a case of using the telephone or internet service to tax the car before driving away. Obviously you do need insurance to drive the car though!

so you dont need insurance to tax online but you need valid insurance to tax at the post office?

cause ive just seen a guy refused Tax at the post office due to insurance not being valid on due date
