We had this the other day.
Cat A - crush
Cat B - usually parts but they CAN be put back on the road (some don't believe this but they can)
Cat C - repair outweighs the value of the vehicle, can be structural. - needs VIC until Oct 15 when the VIC is no longer existent.
Cat D - Light non structural damage that outweighs the value.
In short, only a Cat B and C need a VIC check. VIC check won't exist after Oct 15.
Cat D you won't need or get any additional paperwork.
I'd buy a Cat D as long as you give it a good look over and get it at a good price, resale value will be affected.
