Don't get me wrong, i LOVE my 306 hdi and wouldn't swap it for anything. However, exactly as Alan has said, you can really feel the weight up front in the corners. That said i suppose this is really all semantics since a big engine in a small fwd chassis is the very basis of our shared interest: the hot hatch. 
I'd be interested to have a go in a track spec clio, the standard ones do have a good chassis, it's the rest that lets it down imo. Driving is a bit more numb and i don't like the seating position, all stuff that could be fixed with a healthy bout of modding mind.
