I've driven a lot of 106 and 306s. This talk of the 106 being more nimble is a bit bollocks, depends on how the 306 is setup. 205 with a gti6 lump would be better or Clio as Allen says.
I wanted a strong car in case I crashed, I like the 306 more and I hate the 106 wheel arch intrusion.
Yeah I get what you're saying about the 306 to be honest. Imagine it would be safer in a impact. See a lot more GTi6' around for a sensible price. Plus I have Avo coil overs I could put on it
