With an LSD you can get an extremely competitive amount of grip out of them if you set them up right.
On the other hand, if you shim the diff up or fit a welded and spend some money on basic things e.g. coil overs, welded diff, solid mounts etc then they're one of the most finely balanced out the box drift cars you can find.
Saying that, I can still drive very hard without going into full on drifts and give a lot of cars a run for their money (unless they're 4WD, then you don't really stand much chance).
One thing I will say is, if your not prepared to get your hands dirty, don't get one.
Fixing them can be inexpensive providing you can do all the work yourself, if you are using it primarily for drifting, things will break. My cars testament to this.
