JSA means you have to apply for the shit jobs that they find you and turn up to interviews and take the job if it's offered, otherwise it's cancelled. Much better than the old system imo, but doesn't leave much room for people like Tom.
Tom, there's something in the suggestion of auctions and clearances, easy way to make money if you're careful with what you buy. My mum entertains herself by visiting flea markets and the like and picking up vintage furniture for a few quid, which she then refurbishes and sells on for a few hundred, sometimes more. Job lots and bad listings on ebay are another little gold mine, pick up something somebody's throwing away and clean it up for a profit. Half the stuff you'll lose money on or even have to bin, but the profit on the rest should be worth it if you're sensible.
