Leave the lower idler in place, it's the top auto-tensioner you want to remove. I don't know if you can get it out with the engine in place, i've never tried.
Speaking from experience, it will be a right bastard to maneuver, the 306 hdi front end is a lot heavier than a 205 xud and is on wider tyres. Very pleasing on a hill climb though.
