get as thick as possible - see welding earth cable, 70mm2 should do the trick
i imagine you could pull 300 amps no problem cranking a diesel over
factor in the length of cable run form the boot, you want it as meaty as possible so it doesn't drop any
battery earth to chasis, I went off a rear seatbelt mounting point under the rear bench for a good earth - again use a meaty cable for this too.
you'll need to source some chunky connectors too, and a distribution block and a big fuse to run immediately after the battery. I used plumbing solder and a blowtorch to secure my connectors, you're not going to do ti with a soldering iron.
