Am I being silly? (glowplugs)

(12-01-2014, 05:08 PM)Martin306 Wrote: I was checking my glow plug relay earlier when I thought I'd check the voltage at my glow plugs.

With ignition on, 12.3v appears and slowly drops to 11.9v over about 18 seconds, then the relay switches off as expected and the voltage drops to 0v.

When I start the car though, and it's running, I get 12v at my glow plugs? regardless of engine rpm or temperature. What am I missing here or is this normal, does anyone know why?

That's just battery discharge... Once the engine is on you've got the Alternator to help bring the voltage back up.
