That's probably the best bet to be honest, as if it's gone in two separate places already in quick succession then the chances are that the rest of the lacquer on the roof is likely to follow suit in the foreseeable future even if you did manage to hide/cover/half the existing peel.

My only concern would be whether the paint elsewhere on the car was going to follow suit in the near future if the roof, grill and mirror covers have already gone in the space of a few months - thinking about it, the lacquer has also gone on the leading edge of the bonnet of mine, although in fairness that's no doubt originated at least in part from the numerous stone chips that are inevitable on a high miler.
