But then I could map my Volvo and be sitting the north side of 180hp without any issues...

I've driven Vectras, Mondeos, Volvos, Alfas... Trust me, the V50 comes out well on top of all of them as far as actual driving enjoyment goes the 156 is the only one that really comes close - infact they've probably got better steering feel, but the driving position is so dire it wrecked the experience for me, read most reviews and they'll all say exactly the same thing, although the steering is numb, they're very neat to drive and are actually a good laugh - even ask Ed Doe who had a drive and was genuinely impressed with how it drove...

Remember S40s/V50s are based essentially on Focus ST/Estate underpinnings... Control blade rear suspension which is widely regarded to be some of the best in the business...
