Sounds like the release bearing mate, get it fixed immediately, don't risk it. From what i've seen, you get very little warning when these go, if any.

cheers alex, how big of a job is it? I think I may have over exaggerated its prob more like 20-30 miles, its gone from nothing to really bad, i'll get on it next week then
