What engines would you say are "bad"

The 1.4 hdi/tdci engine has more than it's fair share of problems, as does any TU engine.

The 1.3 ford engine (can't remember the current designation, but it's the same one they've been using since the 80s) - there is little outside of america that will make a lower power:mpg ratio, but then again it is bombproof.

Tbh anything that goes in really cheap cars is a pretty major risk, as most owners won't look after them, simply because "they're cheap, it's not worth the money to fix".
