If the PSU is 10 years or even >4+ years old, wattage is irrelevant, as motherboards overtime have different standards.

Basically, some older PSU's don't have the extra pins on either the main power connector or the extra 4pin connector (sometimes 8 on new stuff) on near the PSU.
