With regards to electrics, surely you would have to make sure the new seats are not from a canbus car?

Depends. As i said, A lot of electric seats have the controller built into them so all they need is a 12v and earth. I know 406 ones you need the ECU and need to do a lot of wiring and same as the IS200 seats.
