Hmm, I have to disagree (although I've never lived in a flat...). £65pcm could be the difference between having the heating on and staying warm over winter (at a time when the gf will be inside all the time, and won't be moving around a lot so will get cold quicker) and being sat in a cold house. Granted it will have a garden, but it's winter and it's not going to be nice judging by the "summer" we've had.
So, grab the flat, it's cheaper and closer to work. Save the time and money.
This gives you 6 months (or even 12 depending on your contract length) to find something more suitable.
EDIT: If you were looking for somewhere to buy then I'd say the house, but this is a short term solution, so treat it like one. The little one won't be in the garden for the next 6 months unsupervised, and the noise from the baby will negate any noise from people living upstairs!
