Who said anything about an EXTERNAL hard drive? Did you even read the OP?

I read it as hes looking for a new INTERNAL hard drive, as the one in the laptop has died. Maybe thats just me though....

I cant really add anything that hasnt been said tbh, 5400rpm is used in laptops to reduce both damage and power consumtion, albeit by negligable amounts, so its down to you if you wanna stick a 7200 in, but SSD is incredibly fast compared to a regular hard drive, and as it contains no moving parts, is good for the power too.
