So as everyone on here already knows my mums phones been playing up for months (see previous thread)
decided today i would try and fix it so got looking, found a forum which told me to install this update onto the phone and "flash" it? think its called.
all of that complete and now im left with a phone which just flickers from black to grey over and over.
Any ideas? or is it just a brick now?
its an htc wildfire s BTW

You can read all the book and forums you like, it's nothing compared to actually doing things though.

There are probably some guides on xda-developers to help unbrick it (if that is the case). I would say you've probably installed the wrong update and it could well be stuck in a boot loop. Did you take a copy of the phone's firmware beforehand?
I know very little about those phones, but being a HTC you can probably boot to the bootloader by turning it off and then turning on the phone while holding down the volume key, which should allow you to restore to factory settings. If everything is on internal memory then I'd say that's pretty much lost, though if it's on external (SD/MicroSD) then it should be fine.

thank you for the helpful post Scott
Have now taken the whole thing apart and put back together, the screen just keeps cycling through and through. i have tried the volume button thing and such a while and still no prevail.
The update was definitely the right one as i didnt want this to happen!
Will have a look about now

By the way, what did you actually flash? Was it a new radio, or was it a new rom? I'm guessing you were doing the radio update rather than a new rom...

my galaxy s was in the same state, now happily running ics android, no experience with wildfire though, as scott says xda is the place to look, hopefully you can get it into download mode and copy needed files across to sort it, I had to buy a usb jig to sort it, think thats just a samsung galaxy s thing though
good luck with it
