Can I suggest fitting something that is actually legal and doesn't blind other motorists? Such as a normal H4 bulb......................
21-12-2011, 12:35 PM
Speak to Ben.R and ask to borrow his halfords trade card. You get bulbs for next to nothing.
I will have to agree with mark though, when you were driving behind me the other night your lights are already bright enough, there isnt much need for H.I.D's.

Get some H7R bulbs then mate, they have A LOT less glare, there the ones i'll be going for when i get HIDs

Mowle5677 Wrote:Na hid is so much more better then normal bulbs! *FACE.PALM* Better for you maybe, shit for everyone travelling towards you or people you are following that are blinded by the stupid things............... To continue on from that, they are illegal for the above reason, the beam pattern is crap (hence the glare from them) as the light units are designed to focus the beam pattern of a halogen bulb not a HID one! and they should be fitted with self levelling headlight units and washers in projector lenses designed for HID bulbs. And while I'm at it your grammar sucks! Think I'm done now! I hate them when incorrectly fitted to a car that shouldn't have them in the first place, but I think thats pretty clear now
22-12-2011, 01:48 PM
For it to pass an MOT in 2012 it needs to have a good beam pattern and IF fitted with self leveling and washers then they need to work.. otherwise it'll pass an MOT, that's from the actual guide book too

Midnightclub Wrote:For it to pass an MOT in 2012 it needs to have a good beam pattern and IF fitted with self leveling and washers then they need to work.. otherwise it'll pass an MOT, that's from the actual guide book too Don't you bloody start! As keeps being said in these pointless threads, an MOT is a test of safety of the vehicle and has nothing, what so ever, to do with it being legal or not! The fact that something passes an MOT does not make it legal, it just means that it isn't going to kill you, and HID lights fitted to incorrect light units with no self levelling or washers are (last time I looked) Illegal, regardless of passing MOT
22-12-2011, 02:07 PM
I didn't say legal mark i chose my words wisely and said pass an MOT :p
Plod round here never bother people with HIDs, someone in a mondeo estate has GREEN!! Hids ffs lol

Midnightclub Wrote:I didn't say legal mark i chose my words wisely and said pass an MOT :p I know you did, I was just making it clear  plod don't normally bother but should as IMO they are as bad as someone just leaving lights on main beam as they pass you in the opposite direction, you can't see shite for the glare! stupid things :x
22-12-2011, 02:15 PM
I agree that some badly setup HID's can be blinding, but I cant say every car I drive past with them fitted blinds me, 90% are fine tbh....

mark_airey Wrote:Midnightclub Wrote:I didn't say legal mark i chose my words wisely and said pass an MOT :p I do agree mate but some standard cars with HID's are terrible, H7R's seem to be good in crystals though and the glare is massively reduced due to the caps on top of the bulb

I'll be getting a set of the H7R's there only about £37 for a 6k package + postage
22-12-2011, 03:35 PM
Are H7R bulbs wired into a HID kit, or are they just straight plug in ?
Edit ... Google'd I think I will just stick to my halfords bulbs.. I have no problem seeing and its all legal..

Toxic-Jake Wrote:Are H7R bulbs wired into a HID kit, or are they just straight plug in ? H7R are a capped H7 bulbs, no need with yours, if you have hid ones it improves the beam pattern and stops them "scattering" as much (and blinding everyone) as with normal H7 HID's

Ah, understood... I don't think I would go back to HID's they even started to piss me off in my old DT when I would drive past road signs and blind myself with the reflection

22-12-2011, 04:06 PM
I can't justify spending £20 on bulbs which will need to be replaced more often than a £30 set of HID's though lol

If you contact the ministry of transport on the matter of the HID they will tell you they are okay up to the of 6000 and my civic had no problem passing it's mot with them on!
Stuff glare and all that crap they give me perfect lighting compared to any other bulb so I'll keep using them Team derv FLAME and CONROD spitters

Your missing the point mate, mark isn't saying there not going to pass an MOT he's telling you there illegal
22-12-2011, 08:09 PM
but im trying to say the department of transport say they are not illegal up to 6000k lighting

Mowle5677 Wrote:but im trying to say the department of transport say they are not illegal up to 6000k lighting And all I was trying to say is: do your lights meet the requirements needed to fit hid bulbs to them, as in do they self level and have washers?? thought not, not many 306's do, and due to that they are illegal they may well be fine up to 6K when fitted to a correct housing, but yours are not! |
