I've got a Ph2 TD 3 door, keyfob didn't work when I bought the car last week. Remove the screw, there was no battery inside it. Bought a couple CR1620's to fit, but can only fit 1 battery inside the keyfob.
Secondly, tried to program it to my car - it does not work. What's odd, is everywhere I've read says a Ph1/2 should have a keyfob with an LED on it? Mine does not. So I'm confused as to which type mine is? Pics of keyfob --
1, Do I have the correct battery & the correct amount of batteries? Cannot see how you'd fit another battery in.
2, What type is this? RF/IR, etc?
3, How do I program?
Came across this guide/FAQ which is good
http://www.theywhoshallnotbenamed/index....rallocking
Tried everything on there, along with trying other various things found elsewhere on Google/forums, nothing is working.
Central locking DOES work fine with the key itself
Anyone able to help? Thanks!

you have a RF fob the rf fob only has 1 battery cr1620
be careful you don't loose the small black IMMO chip with the case open

Yeah, I've read about the IMMO chip, its still in there. From reading about, Ph3 uses the same RF type 2 button with no LED? And also, from what I've read, its a trip to Peugeot to fix it?
Just phoned Peugeot dealer, they want £20-odd for obtaining a "new code"? And £48 for reprogramming itself!

Just try your local key cutters, or auto electrician

Unless I'm reading this wrong, you've got a Ph3 RF key that you want to use on a Ph2 (and thus presumably IR) car?
If so, that's never going to work...
The roof console on an Ph2 IR equipped car looks something like this, with the IR sensor located underneath the dark cover:
The roof console on the later Ph3 RF equipped cars however looks like this - note the lack of IR sensor as the RF pickup is located behind the clock:
They key might look similar at a glance between the two, but they operate on completely different principles - one is infra-red (you can see the emitter poking out next to the keyblade) and one is radio-waves - and are hence in no way interchangeable.

the above is not strictly true if the ph3 had a electric sunroof it would have the ir dark cover with no electronics behind it

Ah, fair enough - thanks for the clarification
I didn't realise the extent of Peugeot's penny pinching was such that they were too tight to update the roof console on late sunroof equipped cars to remove the redundant IR sensor cover, although it doesn't exactly come as a surprise...
The basic gist was right though - Ph2 is IR and Ph3 is RF, and you can't use the remote fob from one on t'other!

shit picture but you get the drift
IR key can have 1 or two batterys
they come in two different thicknesses for the case
but they both have the visable red led and clear led which fires the IR
both take CR2025 batterys
the rf FOB is only one type with one battery cr1620
there are variations in key fobs 1/2 button for the RF fobs

Interesting. FYI, the key in the 1st post is just what come with the car, so I just assumed it was the correct type?
My car is 1998 Ph2 3 door non sunroof. The interior bit looks exactly like this-

it is looking like you have the wrong remote case I'll have a look in a bit, what is the black box for?
I've come to a similar conclusion based on absolutely tons of Google searching lol. 2 button with LED is what I need?

the black box is the central locking box on a ph 2 with IR
the ir receiver talks to an interface relay that fires that black box under the bench
on the ph3 with RF that box is not there it is in the centre console above the ashtray

Ok cool!
Right, just been out. Just to clarity 100%, I have a black box right here --
And this is a photo of my interior light/receiver thing in the roof --
So, I indeed have the wrong keyfob when I bought my car?
The key itself obviously works to start the car, but I guess I can just swap the key itself into a correct Ph2 fob once I buy one?
Just to confirm, I should have 2 button fob with LED, correct?
Thanks again for all replies & help

looking very much like it
when you swap the blade over don't forget the IMMO chip or the car wont start
the IR can be synced to your car yourself without Pro help
im sure there is a guide on this site somewhere
to test if the ir fob works view the ir led through your mobile camera and push a button you should see the IR light up a sequence of pulses
this also works for TV remote
