Laptop memory upgrade

Hi,

I bought some new memory for my laptop but after installing it the laptop will get past Bios but crashes when windows starts up and I don't know why.

I though I bought the right stuff.

The laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad Z560.

Can someone please help me find out why I'm having issues.

   

I get this blue screen after only having one of the two dims in.

Do you get blue screen with only the old memory in now as well, or just with the new ones? Tried using only one of em alone? And test that with both of em.
Might be faulty memory.
Which windows are you running?

Windows 7 Pro 64bit

I tried it with one and it blue screened. Good idea I should try it with just the other one.

When the two are in I get a screen saying windows had an issue and it gives two options to repair or start as normal.

I'll try the other dim and report back.

I have a feeling the dims are fake.

Fails the same no matter which I put in.

Looks like there might be an ic missing of them. The serial numbers are only a couple apart so there might have been a bad batch.

Try this link, it should let you make a bootable USB stick to boot from and run some diagnosis on the RAM, wil ltell you if it is faulty or not

id recommend doing this. probably faulty memory if thats the only change.

I've tried the memory test tool and the laptop shutsdown in the middle of the test.

Chuck the memory test on the old stuff also, make sure it's 100% stable on the old stuff before you start going down the route of getting the new stuff fixed, when it could easily be an issue with the laptop itself.

Haha, Just did the check on the old dim and that passes fine.

Did the Crucial scan and it says I should get http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/ideapad-z560/CT5305777

So the IBM website tells lies.

If it's not a fan of the lower speed of the pc3-10600 memory, it should just drop the speed quite happily... I'd say that stuff off ebay is naffed.

I do find it reasonably hilarious that IBM can't even get their specs right: "Memory speed: 1333Mbps (667MHz)"

The laptop has 2gb PC3-8500 in it now and runs fine.

I've bought 2x4gb of PC3-10600 and crashes when booting windows. I've started a returns thing on ebay stating that it's faulty.

I've now bought from Crucial PC3-12800 and that's what they say it can take. I normally go Crucial but this time I thought they might be wrong because of the shitty Lenovo website.

I'll report back when I get the new memory.

Yea don't go buying memory or memory cards or USB sticks or anything like that off eBay.

Such a minefield of dodgy sellers i'ts not even worth the hassle, just go DABS/ebuyer/Scan etc.

Yep, I've heard of all the crappy fakes that go about on eBay and I still took a chance, my own stupid fault.

Well you had guessed it, the memory from Crucial worked straight away with no issues at all.
