Interesting weekend..
Change some FMIC pipes and found a fair bit of black sludge in the inlet side of the FMIC which is potentially oil from the turbo. Also did a cold compression test with throttle closed (next time I'll do warm with throttle wide open) which came back about 7 - 7.5 bar across all 4 cylinders. Yes its low but it's all equal / near enough and with a warm engine and throttle open it should read higher. I'll do that end of the week to double check. This does however kind of confirm that my turbos dead so I'll be sourcing another. The turbo on the car has about 1cm of in/out play but no side to side. Oh, and I hit a bank... I also picked up a set of modified hubs, arms, tension rods and brand new jap speed steering arms. Should gain some epic lock, the mod's were done by Sam Mocock of kyouto drift.

Pity about the turbo.
As for the modified steering, will it help avoid the next love tap or do it properly next time?

Lots of updates!
Got some tyres put on my XXR's so they'll be going on the front very soon! Slightly stretched too which is "cool". Sorted through my tyre collection and realised I have a lot more 17"s then I thought so will be looking to get some cheap 17" skid rims for the back. Replaced the turbo for a good condition T28 on a standard cast iron manifold, I think it's time to accept that my old stainless one served VERY well considering it was a cheapo one, had been snapped clean in half twice and lasted two years of PURE abuse. Also, the old turbo has about 1 cm of IN/OUT play, it's f**ked. Then I took it for a slide, lovely, except car started running on 3 cylinders... Few hours later I had narrowed it down to a single coil pack failure so replaced that and it runs sweet again! Next I realised I had a boost leak, but wasn't sure where from until I found this! So next on the cards is a custom short/high mounted FMIC, fed up of bashing this current setup everything I crash or scrape over something. I then got around to fitting all my lock mods with a friend on his ramp which includes: - Modified hubs - Lengthened and reinforced arms - Japspeed super lock castor/tension arms - Japspeed adjustable steering rod arms - Driftworks offset rack spacers All of which has seriously messed up my alignment and it would seem one wheel pokes out 1-2" more than the other, go figure that out... I then proceeded in true "drifter" fashion to crash into a rock... Less on that anyway... Overall very happy. Outstanding jobs include - Buy/fabricate short/high mount intercooler setup (fix boost leak) - Fit AEM wideband (for safety) - Spray spare 18" wheels - Fit side skirts - Fit roof spoiler - Remove airbag unit in rear
Got a fresh 12 month ticket on it, no advisories but initially failed on fuel tank strap being missing, anti roll bar drop link being snapped in half and airbag/abs lights being on 24/7.
Me and a friend fabricated a new strap for the fuel tank, removed the anti roll bar (whilst waiting for new drop links) and wired the ABS up to the battery light. The air bag light I had to just remove as it's a LED style one that just refused to play ball. I've got a new Apexi filter on as my last one is 3 years old. Also managed to sort out my wheel poking out more than the other issue. The hub connects to the coil over with two bolts, they have about 1/2" of pivot play, one was max one way, the other one the opposite. I've got a big list of sh1t to do before the 10th of October when I have a drift day booked which includes: Essential: - Fit Greddy Rocker Stoppers - Fabricate short/high mount intercooler setup (fix boost leak) - Fit AEM wideband (for safety) - Fit 3" downpipe and 3"x6" flexi - Secure subwoofer with rachet strap - Fit 17" XXR's on front (DONE) - Fit 4 Point Takata Harnesses - Buy/fit new drop links and anti roll bar (DONE) - Get 4 wheel alignment done - Fit front strut brace (DONE) - Fit rear strut brace - Fit DEFI boost gauge (DONE) - Fit TEIN coil overs (DONE) Desired: - Fix clutch pedal not springing back fully - Fit/replace new hydro (DONE) - Fit DEFI oil/water temp & oil pres gauges - Remove airbag unit in rear - Remove all sound deadening - Buy/fit short shifter No Rush: - Fit side skirts (DONE) - Fit roof spoiler - Spray whole car - Spray 18" skid wheels

thought the turbo was shafted on this?
Ok so since my last update what has happened...
I've fitted a DEFI Boost gauge, which looks pretty damn sweet if you ask me, currently zip tied in place but will be putting it in a pillar pod: 1) Fitted a front strut brace, don't know if it's made any difference but didn't cost much: 2) ... Removed my coil overs and fitted some TEIN super street coil overs, which even though are older, feel much nicer/balanced: 3) Also fitted my spare red S14A side skirts that have been sat around for a long time, I only zip tied them on as didn't want to go bonding to the car with tigerseal etc: 4) I've also bought a 12cm HX35 which I was debating putting on this but MrTurbo (Ruan) has put me off. Shame it's not the smaller 6cm/9cm variant as it probably wouldn't be so bad!: 5) I also fitted SuperPro poly rear anti roll bar bushes and got that reattached (after a quick lick of paint): 6) Put a new hydro in as well as the old ones rubber seal is gone: 7) Bought some spare front end bits (lights etc) for if/when front end gets done in next. Also got a bucket seat which is in desperate need of dying but is all on S14 rails etc ready to bolt in with one of my black Takatas! 8) I still have plenty to do before drift day on the 10th so sure they'll be more to come...

Fitted some rear cambers arms.
Bought a bucket seat and dyed it: Took it for alignment and wanted to get as close to Mitto's settings as possible but ended up settling for: Front: Camber -6*00 Toe -0*20 Rear: Camber -1*50 Toe -0*10 Fitted a new FMIC as my old one was getting battered and a sparco tow strap: Changed a snapped wheel stud: Went on a road trip: Did lots of skids: Videos to come later tonight.

That... is quite a bit of neg camber haha! Looks to slide pretty well from the pics though.

Couldn't dial it back anymore without taking the wings off and it was a last minute / rush job / favour anyway so I just said f-ck it, -6 will do. Was hoping for -2.5 but beggers can't be choosers.

Wings off to adjust the camber??! Is it not adjustable via the top mounts?
Must feel a bit 'darty' driving normally (12-10-2015, 03:36 PM)Midnightclub Wrote: Wings off to adjust the camber??! Is it not adjustable via the top mounts? Yes via the top mounts mate. The machine clamps to the wheels and as you dial the camber in it fowls the wing/arch. So you either take the wing off, or raise the car up (f-ck that for an option).

Ahhhh, makes sense now. If it was a mate helping you out then fair enough! You could always dial it back yourself at some point, just tipex the bolts that come through the strut so you know where it was and adjust the camber plates

Went for slides last night and car was pissing out oil. Looks like something around the turbo has given up, most likely the oil return gasket, oil return pipe or something like that. So.... Need to order up some hose for the return and a new gasket! List of jobs now stands at: - FIX OIL LEAK #DONE - Oil change for Fuch SuperSyn 5w40 #DONE - Buy/get new tyres for XXR's #DONE - Fit bucket seat - Fit 4 Point Takata Harnesses - Fit rear strut brace - Fit Greddy Rocker Stoppers - Fit AEM wideband (for safety) - Fit 3" downpipe and 3"x6" flexi #DONE - Fit DEFI oil/water temp & oil pres gauges - Fabricate short/high mount intercooler setup - Remove all sound deadening - Buy/fit short shifter - Spray roof spoiler

Looks like you had a good time up the drifting, I will pop up to watch 1 of these days as it is on my door step. Think they got another 1 in November

Just had a quick skim through, good progress man! Your alignment settings are a bit odd, are you running toe in front AND back? I'd recommend toe out front, toe in rear. Also try to dial back some front camber ideally if you can. -6* front is quite a bit, I'm at -5*5
The oil you run, 5w40. Is that what you've always ran? Again, I'd recommend Fuch 10w50 instead, gives a little more protection at high temps! Also short shifter, I have one spare. Do you want to buy?

They're Mitto's settings but with -6* simply because I couldn't dial it out anymore without removing my front wings and it was late, a favour of a friend etc, so we just let it as that. I used to run 10w40, then 10w50 (Fuch Titan Pro) but then my engine lost all it's oil so I had to replace the engine, now running the slightly more budget version of Titan Pro, comes in at £23-24 and is still fully synthetic from what I remember. Hah, not actually too bothered about getting one now, I quite like the long throw but if it's cheap enough to entice me.... |
