What's the first thing to look for? They don't kick in when up to temperature
Is there a relay or fuse?

apparently if the temp sensor terminal to the right and lower down to the thermostat is disconnected, the fans will come on as a fail safe??
also expansion tank thread, disconnect the terminal plug on the air con thingimmy on the lhs by the front wing/headlight, and bridge certain terminals in that, if you then press the air con button, the fans will come on?? I had a concern recently about the fans not coming on. with the engine hot and temp gauge showing nearly 100, the fans didn't come on ( cuts in 98 degrees?? and cuts out 92 degrees? ) so I fiddled with the temp gauge terminal mentioned, and the fans can one.....maybe temp was reached when I touch the terminal; or maybe terminals where as bit loose and dodgy connection, I dont know.... craig says...if you look in the o.s.f wing there is a air con pipe with a connector on it (behide the head light) , pull it off and put a wire on pins 1 and 3, put the air con on and the fans should come on. I will try this this weekend.

Unfortunately I have no air con, I have a rallye. Therefore cannot make a switch from the aircon. And also can't pull the brown plug

Pull the temp sensor Matt. There is a fuse, big one, check it. Failing that, is there power from the relay? Then see if you can start the fan by hand (carefully, mind lol).

Okay, I've got a late start at work tomorrow so will give it all a try and have a look

As has been said, check the fuse. Failing that, it's likely to be the temp sensor. Check it by unplugging it, the fans should run (blue plug on the thermostat housing).

Dont know if this will help

They don't kick in when up to temperature nope, thats for the gauge. thermoswitch is in the rad, unplug it ans check with a multimeter that you have 12 v to one pin. if you do, bridge to either of the other two pins and the fan relay should be activated as long as a) good relay b) good earth. secondly if the fans don't come on when doing the test above (amd you do have good relay & earth) then check for power to the fan relay, and also for a circuit to earth through the fan. if that is present, dead fan. if the fans did work when doing first test, fit new thermoswitch. dont bodge it. I did this and i only have 1 fan coming on, what is the first thing for me to check? i now have a semi decent multi meter. If i pull the brown plug on the thermostat, both fans come on, What do you recommend i do first? btw - i am air con. (air con in a cabby....... yeah i know.) Not always Grumpy!!

How do you wire the fans to the AC button?
Been looking to get a 12" slimline for my HDI and wire it to the AC button but theres not much detail about it on here after some research.

I thought the slow speed was one fan and fast was the pair? I'm probably wrong though

(14-09-2015, 04:13 PM)MY95 Wrote: How do you wire the fans to the AC button? from the front, behind the driver side head lamp, there is a 4 pin plug on one of the AC pipes. Disconnect it, and bridge pins 1 and 3. switch on the AC and the fan will come on in about 5-10 seconds. If it does not, try pins 4 and 2, (as there is no identification for 1,2,3, or 4 ) It may only chuck on 1 fan, but this is more than enough for my 2.0l to cool down, I just need to start finding out why my system is not working at all.... no high speed, no low speed, i know the fans work, but thats about it. Thanks Insomaniac , I understand all that but what are we bridging those pins with? Already have it disconnected as have removed AC
15-09-2015, 09:17 AM
Small piece of wire? Unbent paperclip?
15-09-2015, 09:20 AM
Do you not need to bridge it with the Fan wiring though?
15-09-2015, 09:29 AM
It's a bridge between the pins, don't have to touch any wiring.
15-09-2015, 09:45 AM
Thanks Tom, will give it a go
15-09-2015, 07:07 PM
it may take a few seconds for the fans to kick in, but you have to have the AC button in for them to work
