rear beam removing hubs

how do i go about changing the rear hubs on the drum rear beam?

i guess its do able right? i have a f*cked abs rear beam that i need to convert to a non-abs rear beam to fit.

ive never played with beams or braks before so anyone have the knowledge?

to convert to non abs, just don't plug the sensors in.

its the other way round, need to convert a non abs rear beam to abs. my car has abs, the new beam doesnt have it :/

ahhhhh, the abs caliper brackets may not fit a non abs beam, I know they wouldn't fit a drum beam as the spigot on the arm was too large.

Best bet is to fit good shafts into your current arms, save messing with them.

the bearings tend to get damaged when removed the the stub pins unless you drift/press the pin through and out of the arm.

I have a non-abs beam here.

Is there anything simple I can do? I thought about just chucking it on, but then it will throw up the abs light and then fail the mot right?

I'm on the Isle of Wight so sourcing a new beam is either going to be impossible or expensive

use the non abs beam as a tube donor and rebuild the abs beam, using the arms and hubs.

Rebuild meaning new bearings etc?
Or just smash the arms off and refit in the new tube?

New bearings. You'll kill the old ones. Not worth it for the sake of a few quid.

yeah basically.

you will want new bearing seals too mind. lithium grease too.

there is a guide on rebuilding the beam on here someone, I need to find it too as I am doing a rebuild soon. Will do a video too but wont be done in time to help you I dont think, guess you need it done asap!?

try doing it with whole front end off? if you have 3/4 jacks it should be possible

Engine is being done now, I mean I want the car back together in the same week ideally. Don't mind working on both at the same time.

I've never touched rear beam drums atall, so what I'm gunna do is take the beams, smash the abs trailing arm off, preferably with Tb attached. Then smash the trailing arms off the non-abs beam,
Then refit the abs trailing arms on the non-abs tube.

Is there anything going to be damaged on the trailing arms? My current beam is completly collapsed. So what would I need to look at?

You will need to get new shafts for the trailing arms and press out the old ones and in the new ones, you cant just take the arms and shafts out of a f*ked beam and put them into new bearings

You'll need a slide hammer, releasing fluid, a bloody good vice, lots of patience and possibly access to a decent size press. As Welshpug says, don't go smashing anything. You end up doing more damage.

If you really have as little knowledge as you say, I'd see about either getting a beam from Stef (you are gonna need to spend at least £100 on trailing arm shafts and bearings, instead just use that cash towards a built one??) on here or seeing if there is anyone local to you who can come and help you. It's not a simple job, certainly for the inexperienced

if both beams are drum...
then simple remove the drums, with abs sensor, remove too the brake lines as they will be different, and put to one side.

Remove beam.

Fit replacement beam, strip drums/brake lines off that you dont want.

The refit the ABS drums/with sensors.

Sorted.
