#1
is there an engine change guide? everything disconect, in what oreder, and the tools needed.

ive been thinking about it for a while now, but was always stopped as my car is my daily and didnt want to be without it. but now the camshaft has snapped so may aswell go ahead. main thing holding me back was all my tools got stolen, but my girlfriend is too f*cking perfect and is buying me everything needed Big Grin

i have a breaker on my drive so going to strip the engine from that, whats the easiest/best way to do this?

and anything i should try and do while the engine is out?

so far my list is

cambelt
aux belt
mbc
possibly relocate turbo

any help/advice to help a newbie out is appreciated Smile

I assume you're well under way with it now but from memory,

Remove front end,
Remove coolant pipes and rad,
Support engine with jack and remove left engine mount,
Remove all diesel lines.
Lower jack under engine to tilt forward.
Remove downpipe bolts.
Remove vacuum pipes.
Battery and tray out
Gear linkages off
Remove wishbone pinch bolt and separate from hub
Pull driveshafts from gearbox and remember to catch oil
Undo loom on right hand chassis leg
Chain up engine, remove remaining engine mounts and engine.

HTH.

I've probably forgotten a few bits there so any corrections welcome.

Boss! I've done a lot off that already today,

Seems like I've just got to remove driveshafts, down pipe and drop the engine, and I'm pretty much ready to go

Also don't forget the PAS pipe if you have PAS. Otherwise Danny's pretty much covered it!

Well said Tom. Easier to just take the pump off, gets in the way on the way out otherwise..

Should probably mention the driver side shafts is split in two pieces and there are two bolts that hold the bearing in.
The bearing is generally quite stuck in there and hard to get out.
BFO hammer and drift should get it out, otherwise, split the CV joint and leave half attached to the engine.

I have a friend with an engine crane you could rent if you can find a way to get it over.

I've got a bit of time at weekends, let me know
Diablo Hdi Dturbo and 205 1.9 project - it lives!

Yes Ginge! Gunna need one! Hss hire it out for like £30 for a day, so worst case I'll do that. I'm starting to think it didn't have pas, easy to convert to pas? And also what do I need to do to change the whole speedo set up, new engine is a phase 1 and mines a 2.5
