Non-Modified Insurance
#1
Hello all.

I've spent the last 4 years with Adrian Flux, so am a bit out of touch with normal insurance. I'm not (drastically) modifying the Volvo for at least a year, so will be going with a non-specialist insurer.

Who's good? I've had a quick look on the comparison sites, and the usual suspects come out on top, generally (elephant, admiral, bell etc etc), does anyone have any recommendations?

It'd be good if I were with someone who wouldn't mind a few cosmetic modifications, although all the stuff I'd like to do is using OEM Volvo parts, so don't know if I even need to declare it, technically? I'd like to lower it eventually, but if that's going to throw a spanner in the works then I'll just hold out for a year.

I assume I can still play them off against each other to knock my price down, and blag as many perks as I can, but is there anything different about these companies compared to the companies I've been getting quoted by on the 306 for the last few years?

Finally, is there anything I can throw at Flux to stop them from screwing me over quite so badly when I cancel my policy with them? They basically want to give me about 20% of what I paid them back, even though I'm only half way through my policy, which sucks, and has really tainted my view of them, to be honest. They've said they wont insure the Volvo unless it's modified, so I don't have a choice other than to cancel the policy.

Cheers chaps.

Admiral group usually are cheapest with standardish cars tbh as you've seen from the comparisons. They will allow quite a few subtle mods as well. plus adding named drivers gets the price down a lot with them if you haven't already.

As for the cancellation fee, you'll just have to pay it unfortunately, or mod the Volvo instead lol, all insurers have one as far as I'm aware, it's something like £50 with Elephant/Admiral iirc.

Maybe a silly answer.. but why not 'modify' the volvo? Could be something really basic (panel filter maybe?), still classes as a modification right?

For the record, flux went £5 cheaper than admiral/elephant etc.. which was always cheapest for me

Admiral are fooking great imo, cheap and good service, rare combination. You will need to declare those mods, anything that's not as it was from the factory etc blah blah blah, you get the idea.

just be warned though amend the policy mid term and they will charge you

Have to agree flux are f*cking shit if you want to Insure a non modified car!
They will screw you over, and that is one of the reasons I will never use them again

Try Hastings direct, do it via quidco and we got a quarter of our policy back!

And yes even if you fit genuine volvo items IT is classed as modified if it is in anyway different from the way it left the factory it is modified.
Even if you fit an option that is available as a dealer upgrade its classed as a modification

I too have good service experience with Admiral. Usual more expensive renewal shit that's beaten by their own website, but they always use that quote and continue.

We insure the Golf & mini through the multicar.

Interesting, I'll be speaking to Flux to try and haggle down their cancellation fee, and will enquire about modifying it. Was gonna fit a S40 grill and a couple things anyway, stuff that nobody would even notice, but I can use as 'mods' to keep them happy, possibly.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned sky insurance (not the TV company lol) they are on most owners forums as traders and helped me out with the Impreza this year. They don't care if the cars modified or not too as long as you have had some high performance cars in the past. They are only contactable by phone because they ask alot about your history with cars which is great imo.
