I've neglected my hdi for about 10 weeks and not started it. Went to it today and unsurprisingly it didn't start. Put jump leads on it and still won't. Had a tap tap on the fuel tank still no joy. Are there any common fixes anyone knows of. (I know it was stupid to leave it so long) the car doesnt have any other issues. Was 100% beforehand.
Cheers. PC

10 weeks shouldn't really be an issue, aside from a possible flat battery if it was left connected.
Obvious question is whether the lift pump (in the fuel tank) is running and delivering fuel when cranking?

When hooked up to my other car it cranks like it should but doesn't fire up. Does the battery need to come off?

Both my HDi's have been a bit fussy starting from low batteries and won't jump start without a beefy set of leads, even though it will crank over at a reasonable enough speed that wouldn't pose an issue for a typical petrol.
It might be worth charging the battery for a few hours and seeing if that helps, but if you can't hear the pump at all (lift the seat base and put your ear to it) then I'd say that's more the issue. If the pump doesn't do anything, unplug the wiring connector and check that you've got 12v on prime/crank on the two thicker wires (the two thinner ones are for the gauge sender)

Sorted. Wansn't getting enough power from my battery, better leads and a big diesel discovery battery did the job. Now there is a pinging sound/feel when turning the steering wheel coming from the f/n/s?

Will it damage it to drive it? I'm trying to charge the battery.

If it is that, the damage is already done, but the steering will feel heavy/notchy. Could be something else though.

Drash on, it'll be fairly noticeable if it's dead.

it might just need a run if its been standing. things do seize up a little if they haven't been used,
