If it's anything like mine was, with the Vnt it got better, mine would do ~58mpg on a run vs about 48-50 with stock turbos... Drops if you nail it, but you expect that... Still better than any petrol!!!

So yeah, to back up a little. It went through MOT in April, Frosty tried to find something desperate to fail/advise on but in the end he had to make do with a discoloured number plate.
Only expenditure its had was some brand new front tyres (if anyone who knows me, would of known that I’m normally king of the part-worns) couldn’t find any 205/45/16s though The car drove to FCS absolutely fine. Left about ¼ of a tank over the M5 in cloud form. Apart from that, no lash ups or radges to show really I’ve Just been driving it and filling it with fuel. The stop screw is wound in a little too much still, keeping the vanes open but helps with EMP. Still pulls well and keeps an ok(ish) EMP:Boost ratio on a run. Will find time and get underneath it and adjust but just a case of CBA at the moment. Hoping to pop back to the rollers and smash the 200hp marker with a higher torque figure. Worked out its done nearly 4500 miles with the VNT on. First 500 was a bit a suck it and see but I would be quite happy to jump in it and drive it wherever. Worst bit about the car, is the suspension. Ideally wants a set of thicker ARBs and some better springs. Nothing has come up cheap enough so I haven’t bothered. Too many other things that also takes my pay cheque at the end of the month. Tax is up on the 1st of October, not sure where to go with it then, suppose G/Box mount is next but not sure if I can be hassled. A few have said to drop the engine into a suitable 306 candidate... She’s had a good run though and has come a long way. Anyways, random picture I took the other day.

Iv got some brand new rear shocks in the garage for a 206 if your interested as i only used the front coilies

So having a day off yesterday I thought it best to drop the box on the 206. As you do.
Squeezed it in the shed (it’s stacked atm as we’ve taken down our other one in place of a rebuild) So seeing as the CG clutch has done just over 4000 miles, thought it would it good to see what the condition was like. Pretty good really, bit of dust, but that’s to be expected. Can even see some of the original coating on the paddles. Release bearing on the pressure plate is still good too. So blew it all out with the compressor and refitted. Didn’t fancy putting a DT/Xantia box back on and certainly not a HDi. Didn’t have a 6 box to hand so went with a NAD box. From an earlier conversation regarding ratios, it was reckoned that the FD was 19:77, opposed to 19:75 for a DT. So a little shorter across the range. So the box off the NAD Xsara, I had, was adapted to take a Pull clutch. The old man popped in at lunch and helped lift the box back in. Spent the afternoon connecting everything back together, had a visit from Connor (Mac22) which he helped with putting the driveshafts back in. With everything connected & tight, jumped in, turned the key and went for a pull up the road. Does drive well now and has the closer gear changes that I was after. 70mph is just over 3k RPM. While it was apart I fitted some GTI struts from Matt-Rallye so I’ll be offering up the 40mm lowering springs if anyone will want them, also the 307 HDi 283mm brakes will be swapped out soon too. As for any other plans…f**k knows. Keep driving until MOT/Insurance is out or it goes bang. Time to rewind a little. So back up in the thread I started to strip the original D8B Xantia engine. This is finally being revisited (with a push from Frosty). The head had been skimmed previously so I popped up to Hemyock one night and we pulled the valves and ground them all in again. Thank god its only an 8 valve. Then stuck the cam in and checked all the clearances, they were all pretty much bang on which was quite pleasing. Need to finish the bottom end now. Cheers for looking

Though it all runs out in April and I won't be renewing it. Bit annoying really as I'd of liked to take it to Pugfest again. I sold the interior as I was only really using two seats. Took fair bit of plastic out too. Need to sort a better seat out as it has a xsara one fitted at the moment but it sits quite low. I do have some random bucket seats that I would like to try an fit, just lacking a bit of enthusiasm. I hadn't driven it in a couple weeks so took it out just before Christmas, literally just checked the oil and water and it fired right up, revs drop a little low when warm so something to address there at some point.

Engine is still as it went in, reckon I've possibly done 5k miles with it, so nothing major really. Will quite happily jump in a drive it wherever (if I don't mind getting a headache) so it just hoons around locally now.
There is a local hillclimb setup near me which if I can get into (need to be part of a club) I'll probably keep it for that. Visit from you Tom will be most welcome or just let me know when I can come collect that 206

So…update…
Mildly stripped the interior… Got some ‘rare’ (by which I mean condition) bucket seats from Damo. They are actually quite comfy in all fairness. Went on a buying spree in Screwfix and bought myself a new drill and drill bits. Raided my old man’s metal store and came out with some offcuts of flat metal. Drilled some holes, bolted the original 206 runners to the strips then bolted the seats to that. Fit like a dream. I can see what people mean about pushing a car harder with bucket seats now. On to yesterday’s antics: Darren made suggestions to bring the machine down to try on his rollers, so said I’ll come down Sunday afternoon…was in two minds to drive the car or trailer it. I was confident the car would get there but whether it would come back was a gamble. I knew Darren wouldn’t be able to resist to see how much it could be pushed so I stuck it on the back of our trailer. Rocked up in Lobb Land, dropped the car off and got it into the shed over the dyno/pit after some mincing manoeuvring by myself. Getting heat in the tyres and some warmth in the engine suddenly saw a 120 degrees on both temp gauges. Got it back down under control from the massive cooling fan that’s been utilised for keeping the air flow up to the front of the car. Along with heaters on full in the car. Tried another run and temperature stayed under control. Put that down to a sticky ‘stat. Bit strange as the temps stay under control on the road. But it was getting fully loaded on the rollers. The turbo may of surged a bit The coal was pretty chronic, the extraction setup is immense in the shed though. Was quite a bit of heat and flow coming from the 206 it split the flu pipe that was being used. Chris, in true radger style, broke out the gaffa tape and lashed it up. Let the car cool down a bit had a look at Chris’s landy conversion…coming together nicely. Just some starter issues to sort but he fired it up and sounded rather throaty, even shakes the truck when revved. Back on the dyno I though I’d down the fuel half a turn to see what happens. So easy on the bosch. Ran it up and saw dropped off around 10hp (IIRC) so then thought we’d got the other way for the final run. Gave it half a turn extra to what it was originally. So all of the smoke now to be expected. Anyways a random set of clips I took: Came away with all legs intact and car running very well, so I saw that as a bonus. An approximate result of 206HP. Darren believes the car is making around that so I’ll take it as 200HP which is what I was aiming to achieve from the project. How the engine/turbo are still sticking it is beyond me. Rhys also rocked up and put his estate on with another random MAF found in the shed (suspected MAF issue) and that was making expected power. The car has only a few more days of legality so we can say we’ve ended on a high. I'm sure Darren can give an account of his thoughts as he had control of it on the rollers. Cheers for Looking |
