That doesn't sound too happy, never had any smoke from mine - even after 120k miles.

these do smoke if they have been sat a bit, take out for a burn and it should be ok
22-11-2014, 08:52 PM
IT WORKS
After a few miles of actual driving the emissions cleaned up. Idles perfect, no wobbliness or cutting out business. Just need to fix the coolant fill point and its all gravy. It's got a built in car battery washer at the moment
22-11-2014, 09:15 PM
Good news !
22-11-2014, 11:10 PM
As long as it's a battery washer and not a steam cleaner, then things are improving. lol
23-11-2014, 09:54 AM
you should patent that before someone starts selling it on ebay
23-11-2014, 12:04 PM
This is the thing, going to try an araldite it in. Says its ok with water (once set) plastics and rubber, so "should" be ok?!
One way to find out haha. Ohh and that brown sludge stuff is from someone putting goo like k-seal or other in there in the past, all over the coolant system, don't do it kids!
23-11-2014, 03:14 PM
i will be switching mine to waterless coolant shortly, use the pink stuff for the coolant, as that's the proper coolant for these engines.
23-11-2014, 05:27 PM
Never heard of waterless coolant before.
Got the blueeee 2 year stuff in there at the moment, the first lot I put in there got lost down the exhaust... so glad I went with the cheaper for now haha. If it behaves over the next few months it might get swapped for red
23-11-2014, 08:54 PM
it will behave, they are not bad motors at all, metros have been little babes for me, and saved the day many a time!

Famous last words there D: Going to drive it to Staffordshire tommorow. Double checked the breakdown cover and have some spare emergency water in the boot

We'll got it here fine, no water loss and no oil loss, temp bang on all the way here, yay.
Went for a short local journey later in the day and it did some weirdness... Loss of powe, high lumpy idle and slight black smoke from the exhaust. Couldn't work out what was going on but turned it off for a couple of minutes and it was fine again?! Some strange electrical gremlin going on here... It has electronic ignition even though it has a distributor cap, possibly related to that? Or sound fueling related? Was wondering if maybe the hgf has ruined my lambda sensor? Open to ideas haha

Ahhh been to see a mate of mine and have a nosey.
He has a theory which makes sense. It's single point injection and apparently when the injectors start to fail they can get stuck in a position, which would explain the mega over fuelling without being able to rev. Will just run some cleaner through it and see what happens haha.
25-11-2014, 02:51 PM
check the distributor system as these can go funny and make them go a little odd. Single point injector you can rob from a R100, ( if you can find one) you will be looking at about M plate to N or a metro, but you will have to pop the bonnet on metros, as injection ones are a look of the draw when you pop the bonnet, as most were carbed. but you can get the odd injection metro.

I think there is more bits for those than there is coupes now, you couldn't sell them on sadly for some reason, so most were broken sadly.

A post with too many pictures in it.
Cleaned all the goo out of the water bottle (every time you washed the windscreen more black goo came out than water :| ), replaced the wiper stalk which disintegrated and also re did some cable ties I broke on a kurb a few days ago Also decided to disconnect the horn to do the wiper stalk seeing as the bumper was off, unless to disable the horn somehow its not possible to take the steering wheel off without making ALOT of noise haha Mystery part package.

Will probably stick with the original, don't have an airbag system in this car at all, would be odd to have the bag wheel haha
