alrighty..!
Should be picking up the 6 next weekend and in true fashion I've already started the list of what I'd like to do!
First things first, the exhaust!
I'm not a fan of large bores (were you can lose your hand up) or do I like silly loud. After a nice deep rumble and if possible a dual round tip which will fit in the current bumper space.
Any suggestions?
Also in Jan I'm planning on getting throttle bodies, so something which will marry together nicely

Virtually all aftermarket systems are significantly louder than standard and are quite boomy on the motorway, other than Jetex (supposedly as I've never had one).
Some are louder than others though, with magnex being the loudest and boomiest. Scorpions sound good.
This post is an artistic work of fiction and falsehood. Only a fool would take anything posted above as fact.

these aren't big and loud, magnex tend to be a lot louder.

Thanks for the feedback!
Would I be needing to upgrade the exhaust manifold too or can that be left as stock?

Stainless resonates allot more than mild so they will always boom at some point, Mild is allot quieter and doesn't suffer from it. Having the Race spec 4-2-1 manifold on my current 306 it does seem to perform very well even thou it's not directly designed for a std engine with my matching system.
Magnex's are horrid and by now have had most of the baffles blown out of them

Managed to find a link about buying exhausts for 306's: http://www.pugaddicts.co.uk/2012/02/peug...guide.html
Might have to eat my words about loud, the magnex sounds really nice!
Although hard to tell what the other sound like when only the throttle is blipped.
Nice price for a fast-road manifold: http://www.spoox.co.uk/en/306/1704-peuge...npipe.html

you don't need to change the manifold really, unless you get deep into engine work.
most magnex silencers these days are shot, certainly the middle boxes, not a huge problem as new boxes can be installed without too much fuss.

I run a 421 manifold, 200 cell sport cat and scorpian throughout.
Load enough but drivable. Motorways are ok as long as you are fast enough.
The cat did a lovely job of quitening the whole package down, without any real down in power from decat. Got it at demon tweeks for cheap.
Overall great sounds.

Like Welshpug says, you don't need to bother with the manifold. For a stock manifold on a cheap hatchback, they are incredibly well designed. You don't need to mess with it until you are chasing every single last pony out of that engine

I kept the standard middle section on mine with a Decat and scorpion back box. Sounded great without being annoying on motorways. Only downside was the middle box would only last around 12 months before the baffles blew out.
Ive been in cars with full aftermarket systems and I find them too loud... maybe its a sign I'm getting old

I've got a sportex back box and standard center section with the baffles blown out and its nice most of the time, infact not loud enough if anything top end but like most GTi6 systems it's annoying on the motorway. Its OK with the stereo up but if you want to have a conversation its too loud. Annoyingly its worst 65-80mph but this is the worst on all the GTi's.
I am turning into a right grumpy old man though.

Out of interest, and because this is one of those common questions; is it possible to have a sticky with exhaust sounds and links to buying?
Just a thought?

Ive got a magnex on the 1.8. Same exhaust but different engine and without the lovely 4 branch gti manifold.
Sound wise... its fairly boomy up to about 2.5k and then after that its really very quiet. I got it for £40 and its had a bit of welding done in the past.
I quite like the fact its at its loudest up to 2.5K as i find myself aways changing up when it gets quiet!

I've got a jetex system on my 6 along with a 200 cell sports cat and I like the sound. Not too loud on motorways at all but throaty when you are on the loud pedal. I had a kam racing system on my 106 gti and that mo fo was loud!! Just on tick over

I've got the Jetex, with a decat and Pipercross Viper which is a tidy sound, burbles at low and then a good rasp higher up. Just a shame about the tail pipe

When I had my type r I had a full toda system fitted, 4 branch, decat the lot. That system was about 1k and for all it was one of the best systems you could buy, the tail pipe looked like something of an old diesel! Proper horrid
