cheap insurance that allow mods..

Hi all,

Does anyone know any cheap insuance that i can get a quote off which allow mods and is cheap for young drivers as i am 20 with no NCB but been driving a company car for two years now, i am about to get a exhaust system for the hdi, also which exhaust system is best, in sort of middle loud sound..

Thats all very vauge. Whats good insurance for me may not be for you. With limited mods. I find admiral/elephnt good. You probally cant.get a modified policy until 1 years no claim. Which usually turn out better in the long run.

As for the hdi exhaust chop the back box off and just stick a bit of pipe with a tip there.

New to all this mechanic stuff, do you mean take the backbox out and get something like a 3" on the back?

Remove the back box then replace with a straight peice of exhaust pipe. The put a tip on it. That way get rid of all the dampening sound. Will never be loud loud on a hdi.

Oh right, that seems fine, i found a sportex back box which is sporty loud, i dont want to decat it as if i get a dodgy M.O.T and something eles goes wrong with the car i am screwed.. im going to try and get quotes now for the car..

Basically, no. As a young driver with a modified car, you'll get greased up and penetrated through the wallet. Brentacre may be worth a try, but it won't be cheap anywhere. At least with Brentacre they don't really care about mods.

I'd ask about the exhaust in the HDI section mate, but try a search first.

Lol just rang them up before you said, i looked at piggys thread and saw someone said about brentacre, then rang them up and becoz i am 20 i can only go on third party fire and theft, it came to £1350 which is the cheapest and declared the mods i done which was the lights sprayed wheels the gti spoiler which i thought was a mod, now i can even get that exhaust system on the car.. cheers liam..

Brentacre are really good, but haven't they got a criteria and isn't of those 21 and over? I know green light have a criteria like minimum age, driving for so many years etc thats the reason I went with Brentacre as I didn't meet greenlights spec. Can't moan about Brentacre though

Yeah they have, because im not 21 i cant go under comprhensive so that is why they have put me under third party,fire,theft, tbh i thought they was going to charge me a bomb, before they gave me the quote tho..

Yeah ive been with admiral for about 4 years now, juat had renewal in for the alfa.. 760 quid for a 156 2.4 jtd remapped to 190bhp, 23 years old in the higheat risk postcode woth 6 years no claims, haven't had anyone lower than that yet

I told them the truth about the car like mods i done which was the lights, they said it wss because i was young and the engine size was big for my age? I even put my dad as a second driver with 5yrs NCB..

Just rang them up now and declared every single mod including badge spray interior spraying and it came to £1560.88 which is about £200 more than brentacre, i dont know why it was £6000 before when i done it online..

I was 24 at the time I guess, but I also had 2 fault claims within the last year, had only just passed my test and lived in a relatively high-risk area, go figure.

FYI elephant are the budget subsidiary of admiral, so call them for a quote and admiral will match it, but usually with better terms.

This, and the average person assumes engine size is directly linked to power output due to the insurers saying that.

Trying to explain a 2.0 HDi has less power than Mums 1.2 Swift when my sister was looking for cars was near impossible!

BUT, saying that, diesels do cost more to insure, as they take the 5 most common failure parts expected for a claim and use that as part of the 'group' system. So having expensive common rail parts and a turbo does up the price unfortunately.
