Scraps £85 per ton up my way so around £95 for 306 probably less for 206

I've just recently scrapped my Corsa, and a specialist Vauxhall breaker offered me £200...

Mine was looking to cost me over £1000 and that was before they started probing about for the MoT...when I only paid £1500 originally it wasn't worthwhile doing.

just weighted a 306 in yesterday came in at 955kg (parts missing) for £105.89

When you say 'about to cost me £****' is this just a random figure given to you by the first garage?
Garages will often inflate prices, especially if it's an old wreck / something they don't particularly want to undertake if they are busy. I think in order to run an older car like a 306 / 206 / 106 you need to be a bit more open-minded and account for the fact that unless you do the majority of work yourself; it's not going to be cheap motoring. Disclaimer: The above is not to be taken to heart and is probably a joke, grow up you big girl.

I'm fairly open minded when it comes to keeping older cars on the road having had numerous old Fords and classic Minis, but to be perfectly honest my Corsa had been trouble from the start and we had just had enough of throwing money at it. Hopefully the 306 will be more user friendly.

To be fair the most expensive / biggest pain in the ass these cars can give you is rear beam failure / camber. Engines, gearboxes etc. are all easily replaced and plentiful on eBay and the likes, can be swapped in a day with ease.

Whats actually wrong with them? put them on ebay or here and youll likely get more money than scrap for them.

Yeah I'm after another diesel one for a track toy

Even then if you can't be arsed with a rebuild and it is a workhorse non-gti beams that aren't shagged are tens of pounds from scrappers/ebay. I don't even find my gti-6 expensive to run. The fuel is expensive but tolerable if sensibly driven, apart from that the tax band is the same as any old car over 1600cc, and anything that breaks is so cheap to rectify.
This post is an artistic work of fiction and falsehood. Only a fool would take anything posted above as fact.

Problem is so many of them have been owned by mugs who service them once every 20k and sod everything else. From what i've seen at work every car has it's niggles and the only ones to really avoid is renaults. I'm impressed you've spent £1800 on one in 2 months, what had to be done and why's it now scrap?
13-05-2014, 07:52 AM
I just don't understand the mentality of people who plough loads of money into a car, only to give up on it a few months down the line just because of some problems? If you have ploughed £1800 into a 206 and a 306 there couldn't be much left to fix on them. They might both be £100 away from being decent motors that will go on forever.

How can you have spent £1800 and now just be looking to scrap for £100. How have you possibly lost £1700 worth of value? D:

But no space to get another shell sadly, and I have too much money spent on it to scrap it.
This thread makes me laugh, scrapping a car because of those faults is just silly.
Where are you based? I bet someone off here could help you out repairing them for cheap. If you want to see a car that was worth scrapping check out my estate in the project section http://306oc.co.uk/forum/thread-21402.html

Can be arsed getting them repaired ,landlord on me back to get shot so I'm trying to sell on Gumtree as spares/repair.
22-05-2014, 11:00 PM
can you not get one up and running at least and sell it on, you will at least get some thing back. tell the land lord you are sorcing parts for the two. surly some one on here would sort you out an alternator for the 306.
22-05-2014, 11:08 PM

They are sheds (anything worth less than a grand is a 'shed') but your problems could have been rectified on a shoestring. You clearly understand that older cars need TLC, yet spent £1700 on 2 different cars with no intention of doing any of that TLC / maintenance yourself. You can't have it both ways!
