Hi. I've got a think l thing about naming my cars but only something unique. So it has to earn it's name. Is not an "automatic right" for them. I've now found a reason to name this one. Basically it would've been daft not to buy it, then there's been various bits and bobs that I've done to it / doing to it that would be daft not to do. Like Lucas to Bosch conversion when timing belt due. The extra will pay itself off in mpg / veg. Anyway calling it "would be dsft not to" isn't exactly catchy but I can't think of a word that works. Any ideas? The car itself is a dark blue 1995 Peugeot 405 estate lx 1.9 turbo diesel. Not looked after by previous owner but still mechanically healthy, exterior in OK condition. And I like it a lot.
Previous car names have been "legend" (an old astra that perceived by others as being a dump that got us reliably to Italy and back), my vectra which looked in great condition (I don't normally go for looks, I prefer mechanically sound) which I called "cosmetically pleasing rust bucket" in anger when it kept breaking down, which stuck. Then I got another astra that was über reliable but looked a dump, it became the "mechanically pleasing rust bucket". My first car (mk6 escort 1.3 encore - I loved that car!) Was "the miracle" because it shouldn't have kept running, when it went for mot the mechanic said he guarantees that car will never be roadworthy again ( 2.5 sheets of failures) and 10 months later with only £300 spent but many many hours of working on it, it passed! And my last 405, everyone kept saying it was grey but it's clearly silver, the advert said so, the logbook said so, and it clearly was silver. Except when it needed a wash. Which was often. So it got called Sylvia. Which is the first and only so far gender specific name.
Anyway the point is I don't like generic names. It's got to mean something and be unique to the car which is why I don't name a car unless it gives me reason to. I have had other cars which I haven't named, even ones I like. But I won't call a people carrier "the bus" or my father in law called his focus "Franky focus", or I've heard a tvr called Trevor vl because TreVoR. Any tvr could be called Trevor.
Anyway, bit long winded, if your still reading, thanks. And I look forward to suggestions. (Based on the "it would be daft not to" theme)

If it's still running the Lucas pump, how about "George"?
Although might not be work so well if you out a Bosch on.

Few issues with George. As you say outs going to have a Bosch fitted on Sunday, and my ex got with a guy who's lay name is best, they called their son Lucas George. I couldn't ever go near that name, as for other suggestions, appreciated, but they're not unique, individual etc. It needs to be around the "would be daft not to" idea. And I don't think I could give it a negative name as it's (to me at least) a good cat. Not found any rust on it for example. Yet

Fair enough mate, that's as good a reason as any! Same reason I could never name a child of mine Sam. And no, that's not a dig at Rowell.

If you want a special name that is really original and car-specific then surely asking on an internet forum where people have never seen nor experienced your car without posting any pictures of it won't achieve that?
This post is an artistic work of fiction and falsehood. Only a fool would take anything posted above as fact.

It's not really about what it looks like. Like I said I only name a car when it feels like it's "earned" one, and the amount of times I've said "it would be daft not to" is reason enough for me, in basically trying to put that not very catchy phrase into a catchy word. It doesn't have to be a traditional name, just a word that works as a name. If that makes sense

I don't call it the name as such. It's more of a label for Facebook photo albums. In fact that's pretty much all its used for. My mate referred to my first astra as "legend" and my neighbour calls my other 405 "Sylvia" but that's about it.
And your second point, that's what the Mrs is for among other things. Washing up, hoovering.....

Hi firemoth. I'm a new member so apparently I can't chat to you in the "for sale" section. I misunderstood the rules and thought it just meant I couldn't post an ad'.
Anyway, I'm in Huddersfield.
