So the MGs front discs need replacing since I can hear them grinding while driving so looking to replace them. Since they are the front I kinda wanted to spend a lil more and not get Eicher rubbish from ECP. Since they have a massive sale on I went to look at the pagid ones and it came up as £37, great I thought! until it reminded me that was for one disk instead coming to £75 without pads
Out of curiosity I checked eGay and came across a pair of Mintex disks for £54.79

I hear people say good things about mintex but can I trust this do you think? Is mintex just a word slapped on to sound good but they'll just be some cheapy Chinese ones that warp instantly

Part number MDC1501 is actually a mintex disc part number.
The thing that makes me suspicious is where in the description is t says alternative brand: Apec DSK blah blah.
I personally wouldn't buy those from eGay. How much are discs on demon tweeks?

Demon tweaks are quite pricey for these disks. Their oem ones come out as more than the pagid
Yea the other brands thing is a bit suspect, like they'll just always claim they are out of stock on the mintex but have "brand x" in stock which is just as good

Can't go wrong with Mintex tbh mate, for the quality of braking, they're really cheap!

Mm k , now just to decide on whether to spend more for guaranteed mintex or save a few quid but maybe have something else arrive
It's still in one piece much to peoples surprise I'm loosing coolant but reading online it doesn't sound like a headgasket just a leak on either the intake manifold or the waterpump. Want to get it put on a rolling road soon to see how much it is kicking out since Niall said it felt slower than his '6 which it shouldn't really be

I'm keeping an eye on the coolant levels, got caught out the other day with it below minimum topped it up straight away. I suspect the reason people say it causes HGF is because it causes the system to lack coolant rather than the burning of fluids? I'm also under the impression burning fluids is not doing my power levels any favours since sadly it's not running like a meth injection system

Nothing wrong with Eicher discs, parallel ground instead of lathe finished, cast in Pagid cores.
Custom roll cages/shiny suspension bits/general fabrication work undertaken, PM me.

I see....well not quite. What's the difference? Just a manufacturing technique?

Pretty much, probably the ones that don't meet the QA for surface hardness for lifespan or something similar to get the top brand label on 'em. Certainly nothing wrong with them, buy a pair and mic/dial gauge them, they're well finished.

Quick question about the mintex discs + pads. How will they hold up against track time?
Poodle has advised me to buy 1144's but the pads alone are the same cost as the standard discs + pads and don't know if I could justify the extra dollar

Generally last a good chunk longer than stock pads, as the wear rate on OEM pads can be very high when they start to fade.

So you think the ebay mintex disc+pad would hold out for 2 track days ( castle combee & llandow)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FRONT-GROOVED-...5d40c4f6aa
worth the extra 10'er?

I'd just get some plain discs and 1144's.

Well after staring at my bank account for hours on end I couldn't get the numbers to change so mintex standard disc and pad for now it is. I'll use them on combe but if they're dead afterwards then I'll have no choice but to get the 1144

I ordered the same off eBay for my sdi, came in a Mintex box, had Mintex on discs and pads.
And bar the fact my brakes are binding constantly due to flexi break down.
When I've had to stamp on the brakes for a few seconds yeah really do grip.
It's just when I've got continuous braking from speed as In coming off motorway etc the fade due to continuous binding.

I found standard Mintex works well on track but the pads did wear quickly when overheated. Discs held up well, money is well spent buying pads that are designed for track use.

Well I only need them to last combe now since llandow seems to be a no go. Getting the fluid changed Tuesday and tyres aligned so it's ready for racing
