First of all remove the handbrake assembly from the car, then using an angle grinder, you need to grind the small end off the pin that the ratchet mechanism pivots around. Knock the pin out with a punch or screwdriver.
You should now be able to remove the mechanism, leaving you with this:
(the rod will be straight, I took the photo after I'd bent it)
Now you need to bend the rod, I simply heated it with a blowtorch until I could bend it, then held it while it set again.
Then remove the catch from the end, just file or sand it.
And drill a hole in the end of the rod and also in the ratchet arm, as pictured.
Now you'll need to make some plates to join the two pieces together, like this:
In order for this to work, you'll need to grind the handbrake lever a bit to get enough clearance for your new pivot.
Clean up the cut you made to gain clearance, then assemble the lever, I used a bolt for the pivot and some hammer in rivets for the plates.
Refit the lever to the car and spend some time getting used to how it operates!

Basically it reverses the button on the handbrake, so in order to lock it in the up position you need to push and hold the button in, holding it in place while you release the pressure. It's a becauseracecar mod tbh, rally cars have them so the handbrake can't stick on by mistake.

generally they just drill a hole then stick a clip in on the mechanism on rally cars....
thus being still able to pass an MOT

There's a much easier way that all my drifter mates use, u can buy a lil plug that goes in the end where the button is and it holds the button in so it won't allow the button to lock in place, just means u hav to remember to push the button back other wise your watch your car role down the road!! Lol

There's an even easier way. Gaffer tape a coin over the button. It's just not as pretty

After a bit of reading, this seems a neat little mod for a track car. But of all cars why a 306 where the handbrake barely works anyway? Lol

Just get hydrolic one if you want one, the cable handbrake is useless anyway so may as well just leave it as a handbrake...

Id be in awe if you can make the rear brakes (discs) on a 306 lockup at any sort of decent speed.

very easy if you can adjust the bias. Its just the handbrake mechanism which is shit which is basically a separate system!

The handbrake mechanism on rav4s is excellent if you need a model for a decent mechanism that works on discs. Discovered that when road testing one a few weeks ago, the bastard popped a brake line (a solid one!) so pulled the handbrake hoping it'd stop me before the junction. Was properly surprised when the thing instantly locked up and slewed sideways lol.

yeh the little catch for the end of the handbrake that drifters use does the same job. Good guide but tbh in a 306 youre not going to be doing mad skids whenever you pull it!
