D Turbo tuning.
#1
I have a Phase 1 D Turbo S with a Lucas Pump and KKK K14 Turbo. I know this thread has been done a million times, but i'm more concerned about the reliability of the engine. If i was to go for a stage 1 on my car would it be more than safe to run? (Have had bad luck with performance and reliability in the past)

Cheers mate, also, is it mandatory that i use a performance filter/straight through exhaust?

Most seem to say that Peugeot detuned them out the box because of the potential to interfere power wise of the 1.8/XSI
Obviously though if you put more power through things then things can wear out a lot quicker.
There is always a trade off between power and reliability

You don't have to have a performance or free flowing exhaust but it will massively to help get the gasses out and keep EGT's down

It wouldn't of surprised me to be honest, even by today's standards D Turbo's aren't that bad... Standard engine wear is fine, just don't want my engine to give up because i'm pushing 18-20 PSi through a K14 which I've heard isn't the best turbo either...

The exhaust, as it's a standard de-cat was just thinking of a straight through back box? Also i've heard that because of the pressure difference in the exhaust when straight through can upset the turbo?

K14's take alot of abuse if you keep ontop your oil changes. I read somewhere on here its the biggest of all stock turbos but im not sure :/
Doesnt even own a 306.

Was looking at a T2 as apparently they're the turbo to have on an XUD (even though a GT15 suits the engine delivery better but the boost comes and goes quick)?

I saw they could only, safely run 20 PSI and that anymore would blow it to bits! Surely a turn of the actuator is 16-18 PSI? Also i know the fuel economy will drop after doing this, but by how much?

People have run T2's and K14's at 30+ psi, should make over 140bhp with them at that psi. For a stage 1 id be looking at atleast 20psi.

Fuel economy should increase! You've been told quite a bit of rubbish....

As long as i have confidence in doing 20 PSi then i'll do it.

I have been told a lot of rubbish, but hey, that's why i'm here, try and find out from people who know what they're on about!

From what i was hearing, it costed a lot more than £200 to grab a TD04! May not be so long after all!

Right, adjusted the max fuelling by quarter of a turn, and the compensator 1 and a half turns (at 2 and a half turns it wound out) then tried to adjust the wastegate by 1 turn (however the 2.5mm allen key was slightly rounded, so may have to have a go tomorrow with lots of WD40 and some good grips!) Also, connected up a boost gauge and it read 10-12 PSI (but they come standard with 14 PSI, so slightly lost on this?). BUT driving it felt a LOT more torquier and willing to rev! Also, no turbo lag in 2nd gear now!!

I did mate Big Grin! I have read how some people have had to turn it 3 or 4 times to get it doing anything! But driving it, feels like it's boosting a lot more than 10 i tell ya! Gonna have a crack later with a boost gauge try and get it higher! Cambelt and oil change friday hopefully!
