Wiring loom repairs/TPS rewire

Wiring loom repairs/TPS rewire

Hi. Been advised by a peugeot tech of a wiring loom fix to perform, for the po220 fault code problem. The TPS has been changed on mine, because it stopped reving, but the system still shows a fault. Ive completeley re earthed from the battery terminal to body/gearbox, with good quality Automotive bat clamps, cable, and two seperate earthing cables to where the loom earths, and ive earthed the MAF to the body also. Has anyone had to perform the sheilded cable fix as ive been advised to do, and if so, what complications did you encounter, and cable did you use?. Many Thanks :-)

That sounds like a bodge to me. Personally I can't see a need to modify the loom as i've never had a persistent problem, nor am I familiar with any such modification. Was the replacement TPS new or used? There is a guide on here by DeeTurbo to refurbish one, as the grease dries up in them.

P0220 regularly appears on mine, about once a year. Usually down to a corroded plug on mine and nothing more. At 12 years old and a quarter of a million miles, it would've manifested itself by now if there was a genuine underlying problem like, say, the crank pulley. I added a rubber boot to the plug on mine to stop the direct route of water ingress to the plug terminals.

I assume you've cleared down the fault codes since installing the new earths? Not heard of the "shielded cable" fix, what's entailed?

Well, im told its the peugeot bullitin fix. The Tps suffers with Interferience, within the loom, due to it opperating on low amperage control signals. The MAF, being a very noisey bit of electrical kit, bleeds over on to it, hence the fact they advise you to earth it to the body, as in standard form, it shares earth with the TPS. Then after, if the TPS continues to throw fault codes, they say use two single core sheilded cables, solder each respectivley to spliced ends of the TPS connector (signal control wires) route either along the outside of the loom, or under battery tray, and cut opening in multi plug ecu sleeving, feed through, locate two wires at ecu plug end (after opening it up lol) splice and solder. So im told, thats the fix, but personally, id also consider using either silicon gel, or Araldite in the ecu multi plug, because in experience, if theres emf floating around, its going to be in there. Sorry about the long winded speech lol. :-)

Ah i was aware of that, just hadn't heard it called that before, thanks.

I believe a lot of people have done the mod on here and not had any problems with it. I think toms306 was a recent one, maybe worth an ask.

Ahh, will get intouch, and see if he took pictures, THANKYOU!!. Being honest, i know there getting on a bit now, but ive never known a car like it for wiring problems. Regarding the mil lite, i thought if a problem was repaired, the lite went out, and the fault codes showed up as historic, if never cleared?.

I don't know that the ecu is advanced enough to differentiate tbh... I don't remember seeing anything on Peugeot Planet that marked any difference between historical and current codes.

Thats intresting. Me little MB cas804 scanner does say it can erraze codes, but its not doing it. Cheap bit of kit, so i dont expect much. Really want to get to grips with it now lol, as im wasting money driving a petrol round, when ive got a diesal just needing this sorting and a test. Mind, its been stood around 2.5 years, so it could be in need of a dam good thrash lol.
