Just continuing on from the other thread and not spamming it with noobish comments =P
Brakes feel like they need to be done but i want to have more stopping power then i already do!
The 302 mm are from a 307 2.0 litre engine both the Derv and the petrol?
Just need to make sure this is correct before i spend some money!
Are there any modifications i need to do to fit them such as make an adaptor plate or will they just bold straight on?
Also has any one done this recently and know where to get bits cheap?

302 mm breaks what??..............
My car has no breaks, broken things tend to adversely effect things,
oh, wait, you mean brakes, sorry my bad!
They will just bolt straight on fine, they are from the 307 XSi models both diesel and petrol IIRC
they also weigh a million KG's and personally I would stick with the 283mm ones as they are more than adequate when fitted with decent pads

what would be the cheaper option? as it all boils down to my lack of cash flow!

had to be done!
307 283mm ones would be the cheaper option as they are more common and don't have the GTi badge attached like the 306 ones do resulting in less of a price premium and the discs are cheaper than the 302's and they are easier to find as they aren't as rare due to the 283's being fitted to many more cars.
Don't get me wrong, all reports on the 302's are good that I have heard, its just the extra cost and weight that puts me off them

the 283's from gti6 and xsara vst are the cheaper option and will fit under 15" wheels, you will need 16" wheels or more to accommodate the 302's . .

Or 406 brembos if you dont want the 302's but still want to put your passengers through the windscreen when you stop.

Look on ebay for the 283 and gti calipers. Or even on the 6 forum. There are some being sold all the time. Just sold a set myself. Cant comment on the 302's as I only found out about them the other week. Usually upgrades are 283 gti brakes, brembos, then 310/330 RS brembos.

I've heard that the 302s are good but not a huge amount better than the 283s. Is the extra weight and cost really worth it considering 283s will still stop you well with a decent set of discs and pads.

The 302s come from the 2.0 180 (feline/sport) and the 2.0 16v (136) hdi.
The xsi/dturbos had 283s
They are also fitted to the 207 gti, c4 vts, and some 308s

Either way, the 283s are absolutly fine on a fast road car with decent pads. HDIs are also fine with decent pads as Ruan has proved time and time again.

I'm going to go for hdi brakes! With decent pads and discs, heard they can be just as good as gti brakes.

I'm pretty sure JP uses a set of 302mm brakes under some Team Dynamics 15" wheels...so if you wanted the cheaper tyres and "really big" OEM style brakes then that might be worth a look....
Does anyone know if the 302 HDi discs are the same as the Coupe Brembo discs?

If you want to stop faster get better tyres not better brakes. Or better still both.
Don't get amazing brakes then cheap tyres.
